PETITION
TO: Victoria Health Department, Monash Health Authorities, and Relevant Stakeholders of the Needle and Syringe Program
We, the undersigned residents of Springvale, demand the immediate removal and relocation of the Needle and Syringe Program (NSP) outlet at 55 Buckingham Ave, Springvale due to its severe impact on community safety, mental well-being, and the security of schoolchildren at St. Joseph’s Primary School.
While we recognize the intent of the NSP to prevent the spread of blood-borne diseases, this facility’s location has created an unsafe environment, leading to increased drug-related activity, crime, and discarded syringes in areas where children, families, and businesses should feel safe. The mental health and overall well-being of Springvale residents are deteriorating as crime, fear, and insecurity take hold of our community.
OUR DEMANDS:
-
Immediate Removal of the NSP Outlet at 55 Buckingham Ave
-
- This facility is a direct threat to the safety of children at St. Joseph’s Primary School and Springvale Rise Primary School.
- The presence of discarded needles near schools and public spaces poses serious health hazards to students, families, and pets.
- Residents demand its immediate relocation to a more appropriate area that does not compromise public safety.
-
Protect Residents’ Mental Health and Well-being
-
- The rise in crime, drug-related activity, and public disorder is causing severe anxiety and distress among residents.
- Parents fear for their children’s safety on the way to and from school.
- Business owners, workers, and community members are experiencing heightened stress and declining confidence in the safety of their neighbourhood.
- The government must prioritize community mental health by restoring a secure and liveable environment.
-
Restore Public Safety Through Stronger Law Enforcement
-
- Increase police patrols in Springvale Shopping Central, school zones, and other high-risk areas.
- Implement immediate safety measures to prevent drug-related crime and protect families.
-
Support Local Businesses and Revitalize the Economy
-
- Local businesses are suffering due to reduced foot traffic and rising security costs.
- The NSP outlet must be relocated immediately to allow local businesses to recover and thrive.
-
Promote a Safe and Thriving Springvale
-
- A clean, safe, and family-friendly environment will restore community confidence, encourage tourism, and revitalize public events. This cannot happen until the NSP outlet is relocated.
OUR MESSAGE IS CLEAR:
We, the residents of Springvale, demand the immediate relocation of the Needle and Syringe Program outlet at 55 Buckingham Ave. The safety of our children, families, and businesses is non-negotiable.
By signing this petition, we stand united in demanding urgent action—no delays, no excuses. Authorities must act now to protect our community’s future.
